Noémi Mercier to Host the 41st National Magazine Awards Gala

We are thrilled to announce that award-winning reporter Noémi Mercier will be hosting the 41st annual National Magazine Awards gala.

Noémi Mercier has been a reporter for L’actualité since 2010, specializing in long-form reporting and profiles, and previously wrote for Québec Science magazine. Among other places, her work has led her behind penitentiary walls, in the footsteps of people dying in loneliness, and behind the scenes of an electoral campaign. In India, she investigated the clandestine recycling of electronic waste, and in China, she explored the medical tourism industry. Her investigation into sexual violence in the Canadian Armed Forces, published in L’actualité and Maclean’s - and for which she won several awards including two NMAs—generated substantial reforms within the organization. She has a strong interest in gender issues, which she dissects every month in her column “Des gars, des filles.”

Noémi can also be seen and heard on television and radio shows. She analyses the world of information on the TV show Dans les médias on Télé-Québec, and is a regular contributor on Radio-Canada’s literary radio show Plus on est de fous, plus on lit!

Noémi has won numerous journalism awards, including five gold medals and one silver medal from the National Magazine Awards, and three Judith-Jasmin Awards – Quebec’s most prestigious journalism awards. She has been nominated for the Michener Award, the Canadian Journalism Foundation Award and the Albert-Londres Prize, which honours the best reporter from Francophone print media around the world.

She has also received journalism fellowships to support her reporting in India, Japan and China. This past February, she was chosen Print Journalist of the Year at the Dynastie Gala, honouring Quebec media personalities from black communities.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from McGill University.
